Despite an alcoholic father, Abel's birth sparked hope within his family, and the community rallied around them.

Education became a concern, and Abel's determined mother tirelessly worked for a brighter future. The COVID-19 lockdown compounded their challenges, intensifying their grief over the passing of Abel's father in 2020. Yet, support emerged from the church and compassionate individuals, easing their burdens through care and addressing needs.

With the Kkumi Project's involvement, this single-parent family gains strength, reflecting the transformative power of love and support in adversity.

Aaron

Meet Aaron, an exuberant 8-year-old boy from Uganda who radiates joy and light. His family's resilience shines through challenges. With his mother's dedication as a teacher and his father's determination, they've weathered unemployment and war in South Sudan’s aftermath. Aaron's father witnessed tragedy but found safety with his family in Uganda.

Aaron's education was delayed due to financial hurdles, but a kind soul extended help, setting him on a learning path. Guided by devoted parents, Aaron's family embraced the Kkumi program. Aaron's father's exceptional commitment led to his joining the program's team, safeguarding the community center, and inspiring others.

This family embodies Kkumi Project's mission of fatherly engagement. Their journey reflects the power of support, resilience, and fatherly love in creating a brighter future.

    In Aaron's early years, his family enjoyed a comfortable life as his father ventured to South Sudan, successfully running a thriving business selling eggs. However, when the civil war erupted, it brought immense suffering for those who were not nationals. Aaron's father witnessed the heartbreaking loss of eight dear Ugandan friends who tragically fell victim to violence. Miraculously, Aaron's father managed to escape unharmed, and with the assistance of compassionate UN personnel, he and his young family were able to return to Uganda.

    Starting anew, Aaron faced a temporary delay in his education as financial constraints hindered his enrollment. However, the kindness of a Good Samaritan extended a helping hand, allowing him to finally embark on his educational journey. Guided by his determined parents, Aaron's family has persevered, steadfast in their pursuit of a better life. Their unwavering commitment to progress and growth has now led them to be embraced by the Kkumi program, a testament to their resilience and dedication.

    Amidst the challenges they have faced, Aaron's family remains a shining example of strength and resilience. Their story is a testament to the power of hope, the strength of community support, and the unwavering determination to overcome adversity.

He has been appointed as the groundskeeper, entrusted with the crucial task of protecting the community center and ensuring the safety of the staff during nighttime hours. Moses's presence is a precious gift to the entire team. His commitment and reliability serve as a source of inspiration and strength.

    As the Kkumi Project continues its mission to uplift families and provide opportunities for growth and stability, Moses and his family symbolize the positive impact that can be achieved when a caring father is actively involved in a child's upbringing. Kkumi Project came alongside this family in order to continue to support them in their healing, and faith journey, and also financially as they regrow past the trauma their father and the family faced. Their story is a testament to the transformative power of family support and the significant role that fathers play in building a brighter future for their children.

Caleb

Meet Caleb, an enchanting 8-year-old boy from Uganda whose quiet presence radiates an infectious joy that captivates all those around him. Despite life's challenges, his warm smile and subtle but powerful happiness have the ability to lighten even the darkest of days.

Tragedy struck when Caleb was just three months old – his biological father, a truck driver, lost his life in a devastating car accident.  His mother was heartbroken and it took her a long time to recover. Unfortunately, financial constraints during this time led to a permanent eye defect in Caleb’s left eye, affecting his vision. Today Caleb shares a modest single-room house with his mother, stepfather, and four siblings.

Despite challenges, he remains resolute, finding strength in the love of his family. Caleb’s determination and spirit shine as an inspiration, showcasing the remarkable power of resilience in the face of adversity.

Caleb resided in his grandmother's modest three-room brick house, sharing the space with eight other family members. Life was challenging, but it provided a temporary refuge as his mother dedicated long hours to work, only returning home on weekends to be with her children. However, financial constraints prevented this arrangement from lasting, leading Caleb to return to his mother’s home full-time. During this time, his left eye developed a defect that affected his vision. Following treatment, there has been improvement, though further interventions are necessary for complete recovery.

    Today, Caleb shares a humble single-room house with his mother, stepfather, and four siblings. Unfortunately, his stepfather's lack of responsibility as a father figure casts a shadow over their home. His mother carries the burden of meeting basic needs such as food, clothing, and education on Caleb's hardworking mother. Despite the challenges, she diligently works in her small shop, driven by her unwavering determination to provide for her children's well-being.

    Despite the imperfections and hardships he faces, Caleb remains tenacious, finding strength in the love and support of his mother and siblings. With two parents present, Caleb experiences a semblance of family life. His determination and spirit continue to shine brightly, serving as an inspiration to those around him, and reminding us of the power of resilience in the face of adversity.

David

Meet David, a 6-year-old boy from Uganda with an infectious joy about him. His warm heart and beaming smile spread happiness in his community. After being left by his father, David's mother, Anne, became his unwavering pillar of support, loving him unconditionally and doing everything for his well-being. During COVID-19, David and Anne bonded through play and exploring their village. Though facing emotional struggles, Anne remained devoted to lifting David’s spirits. Despite hopes of reconciling, David’s father had moved on. Still, Anne found the strength to rise above and forge ahead for her children.

David continues to radiate cheerfulness through singing, dancing, and his contagious smile. Anne, a respected community member, instilled values of kindness and respect in David. Though facing numerous hurdles, David remains surrounded by Anne’s unwavering love and guidance. With his enduring spirit and unyielding optimism, David is poised to overcome any obstacle.

Despite being born to a mother facing serious cognitive challenges who was exploited, leaving him homeless in Kampala, Joshua's life took a positive turn when his great-grandmother took him in. Though managing her own health issues, she provided a loving home and imparted values of strength and effective communication through her cheerful demeanor and dedication to attending church. Now, with the support of the Kkumi Project, Joshua thrives in school.

Joshua's inspiring story is one of overcoming early life challenges with the help of a caring relative. Though his mother was incapable of properly caring for him, Joshua's great-grandmother stepped in out of a deep sense of responsibility. Her dedication helped nurture Joshua into the vibrant boy brimming with enthusiasm that he is today, despite her own challenges.

    However, Joshua's story took a turn when his great-grandmother learned about her granddaughter's situation. Despite her own health issues, she felt a deep sense of responsibility and took Joshua in. Alongside his two other cousins, whom she is also raising, Joshua found a loving home under his great-grandmother's care.

    Despite her own challenges, Joshua's great-grandmother exudes a cheerful demeanor wherever she goes. She carries with her a profound sense of joy and has imparted to Joshua the values of strength and effective communication. Her dedication to attending church has also shaped Joshua's character, instilling in him important values and a sense of spirituality.

    Living with his great-grandmother has given Joshua the stability and opportunity for a brighter future. At the age of eight, he thrives in school, thanks to the support of the Kkumi Project. Though his great-grandmother may not possess much material wealth, she abundantly provides Joshua with love and a strong sense of family that he may not have experienced otherwise.

Mark & Michael

Michael, 12, and Mark, 9, are brothers who faced challenges after being abandoned by their mother in a small, mud-built house. A concerned neighbor approached them after noticing their absence from school. Despite limitations, he offered food and jobs to provide relief amidst their circumstances. Though worried, constraints prevented the neighbor from taking them in. He reached out to a local church, hoping to find support.

Moved by their plight, the church connected the neighbor to the Kkumi Project. Recognizing the urgency, Kkumi visited the brothers, assessing their needs. Collaborating with the church, they arranged temporary care with the neighbor while seeking a permanent home. We are so thankful that Michael and Mark found a family through the church who agreed to foster the boys. This stability nurtures the boys as Kkumi empowers the family to foster a brighter future.

They were once living with their mother until she made the difficult decision to leave them behind in a small, mud-built house and pursue a new marriage. Left without anyone to care for them, they sought solace in playing on the flat rooftop of a neighboring house.

    Their absence from school caught the attention of a concerned neighbor who approached them with genuine care. As Michael, aged 12, and Mark, aged 9, shared their heartbreaking story of losing their father and being abandoned by their mother, the neighbor's heart went out to them. Despite facing limitations due to his own circumstances, the neighbor did what he could to support them. He offered them food from his meager supplies and helped them earn a small sum by doing odd jobs in the community. These acts of kindness, though limited, brought moments of relief amidst their challenging circumstances.

    The neighbor continued to worry about their well-being, but he faced constraints in taking them in due to his living situation. However, he turned to prayer and sought a way to introduce Michael and Mark to a supportive community. He reached out to the pastor of a local church and shared their story, as he hoped for a way forward for these two boys.

    Moved by the brothers' plight, the pastor connected the neighbor with the Kkumi Project, an organization dedicated to uplifting vulnerable boys and their families. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Kkumi Project promptly visited Michael and Mark, thoroughly assessing their needs and circumstances. Collaborating with the church, they devised a temporary solution for the brothers to stay with the caring neighbor while actively seeking a more permanent and suitable arrangement.

    Thanks to the support of the church and the ongoing involvement of the Kkumi Project, Michael and Mark have found a loving family that has embraced them as their own. This newfound stability provides a nurturing environment for the boys to grow and thrive. The Kkumi Project continues to stand by their side, empowering the family as they focus on supporting the boys and fostering a brighter future for Michael and Mark.

Matthew

Meet Matthew, a gentle 7-year-old boy from Uganda who possesses a vibrant personality awaiting his chance to shine. Though initially reserved, his captivating charm leaves a lasting impression. After being abandoned by his father, Matthew's mother struggled and entrusted his care to his grandmother, Sophia. Despite her advanced age, Sophia took responsibility for Matthew and five other grandchildren, toiling to provide through digging, washing, and sewing. However, extreme poverty prevented Matthew from starting school.

Hope arrived through the Kkumi Project. Donning his backpack with pride, Matthew's smile illuminates the room. Watching her grandchild receive this opportunity fills Sophia's heart with immense pride. Thanks to Kkumi's support, Matthew can finally attend school, bringing joy to Sophia after her relentless efforts to provide for her family.

Determined to provide for them as best she could, she engaged in tasks such as digging in people's yards, washing clothes for community members, and sewing. Through these endeavors, she managed to put food on the table for her grandchildren. However, the scarcity of funds prevented Matthew from starting school, despite his age.

    Hope arrived in the form of the Kkumi Project, and Matthew's life transformed. With great pride, Matthew dons his backpack and uniform, his smile illuminating the room. Reuben

Meet Reuben, an 8-year-old from Uganda, known for his gentle nature and deep kindness. Despite his family's challenges, he stands strong as a supportive older brother to twins, helping his mother navigate life's difficulties. Born into a Muslim family, Reuben's life took a turn when his mother left due to safety concerns, leaving him and his siblings in a new home.

Their new life brought struggles, from financial instability to adjusting to a stepmother's care. Reuben's dedication to his mother remained unwavering. In a quest for stability, his mother entered a relationship, only to be left to face the hardships of single parenthood.

Despite the challenges, Reuben's family remains resilient through their faith. Nalongo, a maternal figure, provides support while Reuben helps care for his twin siblings. The Kkumi Project's intervention has brought newfound hope, paving the way for positive changes and a brighter future.

Life became an arduous struggle for Reuben's family. Simple necessities such as paying rent became burdensome, creating instability in their lives. Meanwhile, Reuben's mother faced persistent threats to her well-being, leading her to seek assistance from the authorities.

    Motivated by his deep love for his mother, Reuben chose to join her in her pursuit of a better life. However, their journey was not without its challenges. In her quest for stability and support, Reuben's mother entered into a relationship that brought twin siblings into the world. Sadly, the man failed to fulfill his responsibilities, leaving Reuben's mother to navigate the hardships of single parenthood.

    Their current living arrangement, sharing an unfinished bungalow with another family that they do not know well, presents ongoing risks and uncertainties. Yet, even in the face of adversity, they find strength and resilience through their faith. His mom, now affectionately called Nalongo, which means mother of twins in Uganda, has become the pillar of their family, shouldering the responsibilities of providing for her young children while Reuben admirably assists in caring for his twin siblings.

    To sustain their family, Nalongo temporarily put her vegetable business on hold and took up the task of washing clothes for community members. However, the physical toll of this occupation manifests in periods of illness and bedridden recovery.

    Fortunately, the Kkumi Project extended its support and assistance to Reuben's family. With their help, the family has begun to experience positive changes and renewed hope for a brighter future.

Samuel

Meet Samuel, a 10-year-old boy from Uganda whose smile can light up any room. He's a loving big brother to his mom, Jessica, in their small house. Despite hardships, Jennifer tirelessly supports her family, fetching water and earning for school fees.

The COVID-19 pandemic brought immense heartbreak when Samuel lost his young sister. He confided in the Kkumi Project, sharing their story of absence and grief. Through it all, Jennifer’s determination remains strong.

Jennifer’s dedication caught the attention of the Kkumi Project, leading to her appointment as a full-time caretaker. Lovingly known as Mama Samuel, she's become a cherished part of the team, radiating positivity and kindness. Their story reflects strength, love, and resilience even in the darkest times.

    Not long after the Kkumi Project team got to know Jennifer, they quickly acknowledged her exceptional qualities and appointed her as a full-time caretaker for both the organization and the community center. Lovingly referred to as Mama Samuel, she has become an invaluable addition to the team. With her warm presence, she prepares delightful meals, maintains the cleanliness of the community center compound, and radiates positivity wherever she goes. She is truly a blessing to all who encounter her, leaving an indelible impact on those around her.
